Fiber Channel Sharing
Setting up Fiber Channel Ports
The Fiber Channel ports from Syneto Storage may be configured in one of two modes:
- Initiator - Storage will be able to access volumes from other storage appliances
- Target - Storage will be able to make its virtual disks available as LUN volumes to other storage appliances
A given Fiber Channel port can be used as an initiator or as a target, but not as both.
Sharing virtual disks using Fiber Channel
Defining Fiber Channel host groups
Fiber channel host groups are identical to iSCSI host groups, with the difference in contents. While iSCSI host groups contain IQNs, the FC host groups contain WWNs. If you need to share the virtual disk to one or more initiators you need to first define a host group containing the initiator’s WWN identifiers. This operation is done from the iSCSI & FC menu.
If a port is in initiator mode it can only be added as Remote initiator or if it is in target mode it can only be added as Local target.
Sharing virtual disk in Fiber Channel
All operations are identical from this point forward to sharing a virtual disk using iSCSI.
