Join AD fails with “Failed to set machine password” in logs
Problem: I cannot join a Windows Active Directory domain. In the logs I find the following:
smbd[431]: [ID 702911 daemon.notice] Failed to set machine passwordSolution: Sometimes an MTU greater than 1500 may cause this issue. Try lowering the MTU back to the default 1500 and retry joining Active Directory. If this happens you must check end-to-end MTU settings (It is possible to have a fragmentation issue with one or more of your Windows servers).
